One arrested, two sought in Savoy home invasion

URBANA — One man has been arrested and police are looking for two others in connection with an apparent drug rip-off in Savoy on Thursday.

Champaign County sheriff's Lt. Ed Ogle said that between 10:30 and 11 p.m., three men kicked in a glass door to an apartment in the 800 block of Village Parkway and took a backpack containing cannabis.

The trio apparently threatened the man and woman there but did not hurt them.

Ogle said after they left, one of the victims received a text message that said: "Can't we negotiate this."

Police used that information to get to Andrew Puglisi, 18, who was arrested about 2:45 a.m. Friday at his home in the 2200 block of Noel Drive, Champaign.

He was charged Friday with home invasion, residential burglary and robbery.

Ogle said the backpack was not recovered. The descriptions of the other two men were incomplete. They are believed to be around Puglisi's age, he said.

If convicted of the most serious of the offenses, Puglisi could be sentenced to between six and 30 years in prison.

Yet another incident at the Village complex. This place is an embarrassment to an otherwise nice community, and the police need to clean it up.

The Village is the 88 West of Savoy. The article is not missing anything regarding the couple who had the cannabis, sure names would be great. However, they no longer have possession (or possibly possession with intent) as the cannabis is not in their possession. Champaign County juries do not even bring back guilty verdicts in trials were possession has clearly been established.
