Fire on North Prospect Avenue displaces resident

CHAMPAIGN — Fire believed to be caused by an electrical problem has displaced a Champaign man.

Champaign fire department spokeswoman Dena Schumacher said James Reynolds, 55, was outside his home at 606 N. Prospect Ave., C, enjoying the sunny day with his adult daughter about 12:15 p.m. Tuesday when he noticed smoke coming from his house.

The daughter called for help and kept her dad from going back in.

Firefighters reported a “fast, hot fire” spreading through the attic of the single-story home.

Schumacher said fire, smoke and water damage was heavy throughout the structure.

Firefighters were at the home until about 2 p.m., she said.

The house is not livable but is insured.
