Man sent to prison for violating probation
URBANA — A Rantoul man who violated the probation he was on for domestic battery has been resentenced to six years in prison.
Judge Tom Difanis on Wednesday imposed the sentence on Lorenzo Dorris, 44, who listed an address in the 700 block of Roselyn Drive, Rantoul.
In a hearing in April, Difanis found that Dorris had committed telephone harassment by repeatedly calling an Urbana woman with whom he had a relationship, between April 10 and 18. Kanis said he threatened to harm her.
Dorris initially received probation in November 2010 for domestic battery with a prior violation of order of protection.
Kanis said Dorris has a lengthy criminal record, including convictions for theft, residential burglary, arson, battery and violation of order of protection.
In other cases recently resolved in Champaign County Circuit Court:
— Jacob Jordan, 27, who listed an address in the 300 block of West Beardsley Avenue, Champaign, was sentenced to eight years in prison with a recommendation that he receive boot camp.
He pleaded guilty to possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, admitting that he had LSD in his home Sept. 23. A search by police turned up about 70 hits as well as more than 6 ounces of cannabis.
Assistant State's Attorney Sarah Carlson said she dismissed the cannabis count in return for Jordan's plea to the LSD charge.
— Kevin Akins, 42, who listed an address in the 1600 block of Cruising Lane, Champaign, was sentenced to three years in prison for possessing heroin.
He pleaded guilty in April to having almost 2 grams of the drug on July 29, 2010, a day after he was sentenced to probation for possession with intent to deliver cannabis.
Assistant State's Attorney Dan Clifton said Akins had several prior criminal convictions, including three previous drug-related felonies and an aggravated battery.
Judge Harry Clem recommended that Akins be sent to a prison where he can get drug treatment. Clem allowed Akins to remain free until June 10 so he can make sure his mother is cared for.
— Deundra Blunt, 20, whose last known address was in the 1100 block of Austin Drive, Urbana, was resentenced Wednesday to 42 months in prison for aggravated battery.
In June 2009, he was sentenced to two years of probation after pleading guilty to taking part in an attack on a man at Healey and Second streets whose wallet was stolen on April 30, 2009.
Assistant State's Attorney Joel Fletcher said Blunt admitted violating his probation by using cannabis on several occasions while on probation.
Blunt has two other criminal cases pending, Fletcher said.
