Champaign man charged in sex abuse case

URBANA — Bond has been set at $50,000 for a Champaign man charged with the aggravated criminal sexual abuse of a 15-year-old girl.

Ryan Altman, 24, who listed an address in the 1000 block of Francis Drive, Champaign, was charged on Wednesday with two counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse.

If convicted, Altman could be sentenced to up to seven years in prison.

According to a police report, Altman knew the victim and thought she was sleeping when he allegedly committed a sex act with her in June 2010 and again in May 2011.

Altman asked for more time to hire an attorney. Judge John Kennedy ordered him to have no contact with the victim and scheduled Altman's court appearance with his attorney for June 15.
