Bond at $25,000 in doughnut shop holdup

URBANA — Bond has been set at $25,000 for an Urbana man arrested for the holdup of an Urbana doughnut shop last week.

Jeremiah Lee Brown, 19, who gave an address in the 200 block of West Beardsley Avenue, Champaign, pleaded innocent on Monday to armed robbery.

According to police, a man wearing a black ski mask over his head and face entered Dunkin' Donuts, 404 W. University Ave. at 6:12 a.m. Friday. He displayed a knife, reached over the counter, grabbed cash from a register drawer and ran away from the business toward Crystal Lake Park.

Police said there were no customers in the business, but there were four employees present. No one was seriously hurt.

After police learned the robber worked the cash register himself and was able to open it and remove about $100 before running out, they interviewed several employees present during the robbery and then arrested Brown.

Judge Michael Q. Jones set Brown's next court appearance for June 28.
