Car, van collide in Champaign

CHAMPAIGN — A Champaign man had to be cut out of his car Friday morning after a van collided with it in north central Champaign.

Sgt. David Griffet said the accident happened about 9:38 a.m. at the intersection of Bradley Avenue and State Street, where Bloomington Road branches off to the northwest.

Griffet said a van driven west on Bradley by Heather Bland, 31, of Urbana, mistook the traffic signal for Bloomington Road and entered into the intersection of Bradley with State, turning in front of a car headed east on Bradley. The light for westbound Bradley was still red, Griffet said.

The driver of the car, Louis Kinnamon, 55, of Champaign, had to be cut out of his car.

He was taken to Carle Foundation Hospital, where he was being treated for what Griffet described as non-life threatening injuries.

Griffet said Bland was issued a ticket for disobeying a traffic control signal.
