Motorcycle crash puts 1 in hospital
URBANA — An Urbana man was listed in fair condition Sunday night at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana following a motorcycle crash in Urbana.
According to an Urbana police report, Carl D. Tatman, 56, who listed an address in St. Joseph, was driving a Harley-Davidson motorcycle westbound in the north lane of University Avenue in Urbana, and Wayne G. Valentine, 56, who listed an address in the 100 block of North Race Street, Urbana, was driving a Harley-Davidson motorcycle westbound in the south lane of University Avenue near Cunningham Avenue at 8:21 p.m. Saturday when Valentine changed lanes and collided with the rear tire of Tatman's motorcycle.
Valentine was ejected from the motorcycle and injured. He was taken to Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, where he was listed in fair condition.
The report said Tatman had no injuries.
According to the report, Valentine appeared to be under the influence of alcohol and did not realize he had been involved in an accident. The report said that police found eight unopened beer cans in a side compartment of his motorcycle.
Police ticketed Valentine for improper lane usage, driving under the influence of alcohol and illegal transportation of alcohol.
This is not the same Carl Tatman. The newspaper has reported the wrong middle initial for the Carl who was involved in the accident. There are 2 in the area, one who has been in recent legal trouble and one who has not. Carl D is a resident of Urbana, IL, not of St. Joseph, IL. Maybe the newspaper should try fact checking before posting the wrong information.
So what do you want them to do? Go knock on the doors of every Carl Tatman in the county and say, "We're just verifying that you were indeed in a motorcycle accident, just in case the police recorded it incorrectly..." It's not "lazy" to report what was in the police report. Mistakes happen, unfortunately, but we wouldn't get any news at all if every fact had to be verified as much as you think it should. The cops need to take their paperwork more seriously.
well think about it,,, did the paper investagate the stop and wreck or did the N-G that's why they say as in the report, had the cop done his job, everything would have been correct with no confusion ,,,,on his DL I think his middle name his on there, is it not,, and his age, and weight and height,,, somebody took this and ran with it,,, one guy said he was in jail at the same time the wreck happened with DUI and a pot charge,,, wrong guy,,, thanks UPD
