Champaign man charged with DUI

URBANA — A Champaign man was charged with driving under the influence after a crash early Sunday that left five people injured.

Darius A. Edwards, 22, was arrested about 1:15 a.m. Sunday, his birthday, following a collision near Lincoln and Fairview avenues.

An Urbana police report said Edwards was southbound on Lincoln when he turned left on to Fairview and collided with a northbound car driven by Dong Wook Lee, 22, of the 1600 block of Melrose Valley Court, Urbana.

Edwards told police he believed he had a green arrow, but he was ticketed for DUI and failure to yield turning left.

The report said Edwards had four men riding in his car with him, two of whom were taken to Carle Foundation Hospital where they were treated for injuries and released.

Lee, another man and a woman with him were also taken to Carle. A spokeswoman said Lee was treated and released but had no information about the other two passengers.

Edwards posted bond within hours of his arrest and was ordered to appear in court on the DUI charge July 29.

One drunk driver+how many hurt people? TOO MANY! Not to mention helping skyrocketing insurance rates get even higher. We need tougher DUI laws
