Three White Heath men arrested for marijuana production
WHITE HEATH — A police investigation of a damaged windshield led to the arrests last week of three White Heath men for marijuana production and other charges.
According to a state police report, troopers were called to the westbound lane of Interstate 72 near White Heath at 8:37 p.m. Friday for a report of a damaged windshield.
A Springfield woman who drove the car said an unknown object broke the windshield. State Police Lt. Greg Lindemulder said the name of the woman is not being released at this time.
Lindemulder said the woman took the car to a mechanic who discovered a projectile imbedded in the car's dashboard. Lindemulder said the projectile remains under investigation by an Illinois State Police crime scene investigator.
When police canvassed the area around the incident, they found a home with an outdoor shooting range at 1186 Old Route 47 in White Heath near the interstate highway.
After police obtained a search warrant for the property to look for weapons that may have damaged the car; state law enforcement officials and Piatt County sheriff's deputies went to the home at 2:55 p.m. Tuesday.
During the search, police noticed an indoor marijuana growing operation and evidence of possible controlled substance sales and obtained an additional search warrant for those items.
"It was a hydroponic marijuana growing operation, meaning that water is circulated through the system," Lindemulder said.
Lindemulder said police found and seized 12 marijuana plants, 5 grams of processed marijuana, 952 Valium pills, 335 Xanax pills, packaging, cash, nine long guns and 12 handguns,
Police arrested Andrew D. Henson, 22, for production of cannabis plants and possession of drug paraphernalia; Nicholas W. Henson, 24, for production of cannabis plants and unlawful possession with the intent to deliver a controlled substance; and Danny R. Henson, 62, for production of cannabis plants and obstructing justice.
All three men were taken to the Piatt County Jail. Bond for Nicholas and Danny Henson was set at $20,000. Bond for Andrew Henson was set at $15,000.
Piatt County State's Attorney Dana Rhoades said she has not yet filed formal charges.
"I'm awaiting a full report from the Illinois State Police and will review that for the appropriate charges," Rhoades said.
