Single-vehicle crash reported near Pesotum
PESOTUM — Three people were taken to Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana following a single-vehicle crash Thursday afternoon in rural Pesotum.
According to a state police report, Phouangphet Singharath, 31, who listed an address in Champaign, was driving a 2001 Nissan van south on Interstate 57 at 12:48 p.m. Thursday when the van left the road to the right, over-corrected and moved into the median, where it flipped onto its left side about a mile south of Pesotum.
Singharath and two passengers, an 8-year-old boy and a 5-year-old girl, both from Champaign, were all taken by ambulance to Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, where Singharath was treated and released. The conditions of the two children were not available.
The report said that Singharath and the boy were both wearing seat belts, but the girl was not secured.
Police said Singharath was ticketed for improper lane usage and failure to secure a child in a child restraint system.
