Champaign woman reports sexual assault

CHAMPAIGN — A Champaign woman was sexually assaulted in a north Champaign neighborhood Thursday night, according to police.

Champaign police spokeswoman Rene Dunn said officers were told about the attack around 11:20 p.m. by employees of Provena Covenant Medical Center in Urbana, where the woman went for treatment.

The woman, 50, told police she was walking from one friend's house to another between 7 and 7:30 p.m. in the area of Edgebrook Drive and Garden Lane when she was grabbed by an unknown man.

Dunn said the woman reported that the man threw her to the ground and sexually assaulted her before running away in an unknown direction.

The woman did not go to her friend's home but walked to another location where she called for an ambulance, Dunn said.

No description of the attacker was provided.
