Man robs Champaign bank

CHAMPAIGN — Champaign police are investigating a bank robbery late Monday morning.

According to a Champaign police report, a man walked into First Federal Savings Bank, 1912 W. Springfield Ave., at 11:17 a.m. and demanded cash.

Police spokeswoman Rene Dunn said the man did not display or imply that he had a gun, but he left the bank with cash.

The man was last seen running south across Springfield Avenue near Kenwood Avenue.

No injuries were reported by bank employees, Dunn said.

Employees described the robber as a 6-foot-tall black man in his 20s. He had a thin build and was wearing a red, white and blue striped shirt, jeans and a hat with white embroidered lettering.

Persons with information on the bank robbery should call the Champaign Police Department investigation division at 351-4545.

seems to be a lot of bank robberies in C-U lately among all the shootings, maybe if the states attorney would prosecute "real" criminals instead of giving them a slap on the wrist, they wouldn't be so reluctant to commit crime.
