Rantoul man arrested for burglary

RANTOUL — Bond has been set at $3,000 for a Rantoul man charged in connection with the burglary of a lawn mower.

Alonzo Thomas, 31, who listed an address in Rantoul, pleaded innocent on Tuesday to felony burglary.

According to a police report, Thomas was pushing a lawn mower in the 1500 block of South Pointe Drive, Rantoul on July 14 when a Rantoul police officer arrested Thomas on a warrant for a village ordinance violation.

After Thomas was taken to the Champaign County Jail on the village charge, a Rantoul woman reported that her lawn mower had been stolen.

The police officer who initially arrested Thomas remembered that Thomas had been pushing a mower matching the description given by the woman and then arrested Thomas at the county jail on Monday on the new charge.

Judge John Kennedy set Thomas' next court appearance for July 27.
