Traffic stop brings weapon charge

URBANA — A Champaign man who police found with a stolen gun has been criminally charged.

About 12:30 a.m. Wednesday, University of Illinois police pulled over a car in the 800 block of West Green Street in Urbana for having a bad headlight. The officer discovered that the driver, Adareus J. Carr. 20, who listed an address in the 2400 block of North Neil Street, had an unloaded pistol tucked in the waistband of his shorts. He also possessed what police believed to be a fake ID.

Police said the gun had reportedly been stolen in Detroit in 1977.

Carr was charged Wednesday with aggravated unlawful use of weapons and for possession of an altered identification card, both Class 4 felonies.

He is due back in court July 26 for a probable cause hearing.
