Convicted burglar charged with new burglary

URBANA — An Urbana man on probation for burglary was arrested at the county probation office Thursday for a new crime.

Kevin Jordan, 24, who listed an address in the 800 block of Scovill Street, was charged Friday with residential burglary for allegedly breaking into a home in the 1100 block of East McHenry Street in Urbana on June 25.

Urbana police investigator Matt Quinley said a latent fingerprint lifted at the home was sent to the state crime lab and recently came back as matching Jordan's.

Court records show Jordan is currently on probation for a 2010 burglary in which he was ordered to get drug treatment. He also has a 2007 robbery conviction in which drug treatment was ordered. Both convictions would have meant that his fingerprints were in a statewide data base.

Quinley said Jordan was arrested at the probation office in the courthouse Thursday.

Quinley said in the McHenry break-in, a sliding glass door lock was broken. The owner reported about $9,500 worth of jewelry was stolen.

If convicted, Jordan faces up to 15 years in prison. He's due back in court Aug. 23.
