Man serving six-month term in molestation case

TUSCOLA — An Arcola man is serving a six-month sentence in the Douglas County jail after admitting he sexually molested an Arcola girl several years ago.

Reichel Fiala, 69, pleaded guilty to two counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse in Douglas County Circuit Court earlier this month and was sentenced to four years of probation as well as the jail term. He'll also have to register as a sex offender.

Douglas County State's Attorney Kevin Nolan said two other counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse and one count of indecent solicitation of a child were dismissed as part of Fiala's plea agreement.

Also part of the agreement was the dismissal of a predatory criminal sexual assault of a child charge lodged against Fiala in Champaign County in late March, two weeks after he had been criminally charged in Douglas County.

Assistant Champaign County State's Attorney Stephanie Weber said she plans to dismiss the case once she receives the paperwork from Douglas County confirming Fiala's conviction there. As of late last week, Fiala's Champaign County case was still open.

In March, Nolan said that Fiala was known to give girls he knew through his church rides in his truck and on a scooter and that he inappropriately touched them while doing so. The girls were in their early teens.

The acts to which he pleaded guilty occurred during 2007, according to the court records.

The Champaign County case alleged an act that occurred between Fiala and an Arcola girl who had ridden to Champaign County with him in the summer of 2009.
