3rd man pleads guilty over May mall shooting
URBANA — A third man charged in a May shooting outside Market Place Mall that left a Champaign man gravely injured has pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit aggravated battery.
Tyree Williams, 17, of Milwaukee admitted to Judge Heidi Ladd on Friday that he took part in planning an attack on Tony Brock, 28, of Champaign that happened outside the Lens Crafters Store in Champaign on the afternoon of May 1.
Co-defendants Ronald Harris, 18, and Raighee Day, 24, both of Milwaukee, pleaded guilty to the same charge before Ladd earlier this month.
Williams and Harris were each sentenced to two years of probation, and Day to two years of conditional discharge. The more serious charge of aggravated battery with a firearm was dismissed in all their cases.
Assistant State's Attorney Troy Lozar said Harris, Day and Williams all admitted they came to Champaign with three other men from Milwaukee that day to harm Brock. Lozar said there was no evidence to suggest that these three inflicted any violence upon him.
The cases of four other men, including the alleged shooter, Dontrell Thompson, 22, also of Milwaukee, remain unresolved.
Lozar said he has been told that Brock has been released from the hospital and is able to get around.
