Charleston man facing drug charges
URBANA — A Charleston man arrested early Sunday for having drugs in his car is due back in court next week with his own attorney.
Aaron G. Blocker, 28, was arraigned in Champaign County Circuit Court on Monday on charges of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and possession with intent to deliver cannabis.
According to a state police report, a trooper stopped Blocker about 2 a.m. for allegedly doing 85 mph in a 65 mph zone on southbound Interstate 57 just north of Champaign.
A drug-sniffing dog alerted police to something in the driver's door and quarter panel. A search of the vehicle turned up a brick of a green leafy substance alleged to be cannabis and 24 pills of suspected MDMA, also known as Ecstasy.
The charge relating to the Ecstasy is a Class X felony carrying potential penalties of between six and 30 years in prison upon conviction.
Blocker posted bond and was released from the county jail. He was told to be back in court Aug. 12.
