Teens injured in crash
DEWEY - Three teens were taken to an area hospital Monday night after the car they were riding in ran off a county road south of Dewey and overturned.
Champaign County sheriff's Sgt. Dan Coile said the accident happened at 7:50 p.m. on County Road 900 E just south of U.S. 136.
Hayley Briggs, 16, of Fisher, was driving south when she ran off the road to the right, crossed back over, then ran off the road on the left side, overturning in a corn field.
She had three passengers, Christopher Mesch, 15, of Paxton; Emily Hortin, 16, of Fisher; and Jerel Donald,19, of Rantoul. Briggs, Mesch and Hortin were all taken by ambulance to Provena Covenant Medical Center in Urbana, where their conditions were not available. Coile said Donald declined medical treatment.
Coile said Briggs was issued a ticket for driving too fast for conditions. She was also expected to be issued at least one more ticket for having too many unrelated passengers in the car for her age, he said. The accident remains under investigation.
