Nobody hurt in house fire in East Urbana
URBANA — Nobody was hurt in a fire late Tuesday afternoon in East Urbana.
According to a fire department report, firefighters from Edge-Scott, Carroll, St. Joseph-Stanton and Savoy were initially called to a one-story house fire at 2707 E. Main St., Urbana, at 5:33 p.m. Tuesday, but the St. Joseph-Stanton and Savoy firefighters were sent back to their stations when it was determined they were not needed.
The report said that material in an ash tray outside the house had ignited, with the fire spreading to siding on the south side of the house.
A neighbor saw the fire, knocked on the door, and told those who were there about the fire.
Edge-Scott Fire Department Lt. Jason Griest said the fire had been put out with a hose by the time the firefighters arrived.
Firefighters left the scene at 5:56 p.m. Tuesday.
Griest said the cause of the fire was determined to be accidental. He estimated total damage at about $2,000.
