Champaign man faces cocaine charge
URBANA — A Champaign man accused of having crack cocaine intended for sale has been charged with that offense as well as domestic battery.
A Champaign police report said Anton M. Clark, 20, who listed an address in the 1500 block of King's Way Drive, was arrested about 4:45 p.m. Monday for battering his 18-year-old girlfriend.
State's Attorney Julia Rietz said after the alleged beating, he got in a car with a cousin and fled. A Champaign police officer saw him throw something from the car that turned out to be 13 bags of suspected crack cocaine that weighed just under 4 grams.
Clark was arrested in the 1300 block of Fairfax Drive.
In court Monday, Judge Michael Jones set bond for Clark at $5,000, appointed the public defender to represent him and ordered him to have no contact with the victim. Jones set Clark's next court date for Oct. 4.
If convicted of the possession with intent to deliver controlled substance charge, Clark faces penalties ranging from probation to four to 15 years in prison.
