Woman injured when her motorcycle hits truck

RANTOUL — A Paxton woman was seriously injured early Tuesday after her motorcycle crashed into the back of a work truck with flashing lights.

Illinois State Police at Pesotum said Cordelia Geiken, 44, of Paxton was driving south on Interstate 57 at Rantoul at 7:16 a.m. when she ran into the back of a work truck parked in the left lane.

The truck had an arrow board and multiple flashing yellow lights that were intended to move drivers to the right lane because of a road crew working ahead.

Geiken apparently failed to change lanes and hit the back of the truck. The force of the collision threw her from her motorcycle into the truck.

She was taken to Carle Foundation Hospital, where she was listed in critical condition Tuesday afternoon. She was wearing a helmet.

The driver of the truck, Dion Andre, 28, of Champaign, was wearing his seat belt and was not hurt.

Police said Geiken was issued a ticket for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
