URBANA — An Urbana man who hit a pedestrian in Urbana while driving drunk earlier this year has been sentenced to six years in prison.

Jeremy B. Hall, 35, who listed an address in the 1700 block of Willow Road, pleaded guilty in June to aggravated driving under the influence and received the sentence Friday from Judge Richard Klaus.

Assistant State's Attorney Andrea Bergstrom said on Feb. 6, Jacob Hill, 23, of Tolono, was walking in the 1800 block of Willow Road about 10 p.m. when he saw a car pull out of a driveway. The car hit him from behind, throwing him on to the hood, where he hit the windshield before falling to the road.

The car left but Hill, who had been knocked out of his shoes and was bleeding from the head, was able to go to a nearby house and call for help.

Urbana police went to the house from which the car pulled out and found Hall's girlfriend, who called him. He returned home and police found the car had a shattered windshield.

Hall admitting drinking but denied knowing that he had been in an accident, Bergstrom said.

A test of his breath revealed a blood-alcohol content of 0.217 percent. Bergstrom said Hall had two prior convictions for DUI and his license was revoked.

Because of his record and the injury to Hill, Hall faced an extended term of up to 12 years in prison but under the terms of a plea agreement between Bergstrom and defense attorney Baku Patel, she agreed to seek no more than six years.
