Savoy man arrested on battery charges

SAVOY — A Savoy man was arrested early Sunday for aggravated battery and battery after allegedly cutting a man who tried to come to the aid of a woman being kicked.

Champaign County sheriff's Lt. Ed Ogle said Nathaniel J. Buckner, 20, who listed an address in the 100 block of Sterling Court, allegedly was kicking a woman in the head at a party at his apartment when a 32-year-old Champaign man tried to intervene.

Buckner allegedly produced a knife and cut the man on the ring finger. The victim left and sought treatment at Carle Foundation Hospital.

Ogle said the incident happened about 2:30 a.m. Sunday, but police weren't notified until about 4:15 a.m. by hospital officials.

Ogle said Buckner, who is on probation for criminal trespass to vehicle, was arrested for aggravated battery to the man who was cut and battery for the incident with the woman.

He was expected to be arraigned Tuesday afternoon.
