Man charged with aggravated DUI in fatal wreck
An accident involving a pickup truck and a riding lawn mower Thursday night in northeastern Iroquois County resulted in the death of a St. Anne man and the arrest of a rural Martinton man for aggravated drunken driving.
Daniel J. Mitchell, 39, of rural Martinton, was driving a 1996 GMC pickup truck south on County Road 2000 East, about one-tenth of a mile north of County Road 3100 North outside Papineau, when his truck hit a riding lawn mower driven by Dennis W. Busse, 60, of rural St. Anne, according to a news release from the Iroquois County Sheriff's Office.
Coroner Bill Cheatum pronounced Mr. Busse dead at the scene, the release said.
Mitchell was charged Friday in Iroquois County Circuit Court with aggravated driving under the influence of alcohol, driving with a revoked license and operating an uninsured vehicle. He was being held Friday on a $50,000 bond at the Iroquois County jail in Watseka.
Arraignment was set for 1:30 p.m. Oct. 12. In court Friday, Mitchell was ordered not to consume alcohol or drive any vehicle. Also, attorney Craig Miller entered his appearance on Mitchell's behalf.
Assisting at the scene were the Papineau Fire Protection District and paramedics from Riverside Medical Center.
