Police seek help with repeat theft offender

URBANA — The University of Illinois Police Department is seeking help to catch a repeat theft offender.

According to a UI press release, "Andra D. Brent has a long history of entering UI buildings and committing daytime thefts from offices left unattended."

Brent, who was released from prison on Sept. 15, was seen leaving a professor's office in Turner Hall, 1102 S. Goodwin Ave., U, on Sept. 20, police said.

On Sept. 24, Brent was arrested on an Illinois Department of Corrections warrant in Champaign. While in custody, UI police issued to him a "letter of no trespass" for all UI property. He was then released.

But since then, police said, Brent has violated his parole requirements by not reporting to his check-in location.

Also, Brent has reportedly been seen again in Turner Hall.

Anyone who encounters Brent is urged to call police dispatch at 333-8911 and supply a clothing description, location and last known direction of travel. It is likely that he will change clothing while committing crimes, police said.

He is described as a 47-year-old black man, 5-foot-11, 170 pounds, with pockmarks or freckles on his face. Police say Brent may carry a folder or papers as a prop and indicate he is looking for someone or looking for work. He is said to make poor eye contact during conversations.
