Champaign woman arrested after traffic stop in Rantoul
RANTOUL — A Champaign woman who police say had suspected crack cocaine in her purse early Sunday in Rantoul has been charged with a Class 1 felony.
Kasheena Thomas, 28, who listed an address in the 700 block of Bethune Court, was driving near the intersection of Murray and Chandler roads about 1:15 a.m. when she was stopped by a police officer for an alleged traffic violation.
Rantoul police investigator Rodney Sullivan said a drug-sniffing dog alerted on the sport utility vehicle. Police searched it and found about 6.4 grams of suspected crack cocaine in Thomas' purse.
She was arraigned Monday for possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and told to be back in court Nov. 8.
If convicted, she faces penalties ranging from probation to four to 15 years in prison.
