Two hurt in two-vehicle Champaign crash
CHAMPAIGN — Two people were injured in a two-vehicle crash early Monday afternoon in Champaign.
According to Champaign police, a 1999 Chrysler LHS driven by a Laura Brumfield, 55, of Homer collided with a 2007 GMC Yukon driven by a LaKeith Brooks, 52, who listed an address in the 1900 block of Sumac Drive, Champaign, at the intersection of Mattis Avenue and William Street about 12:10 p.m.
Police said Brumfield was driving east on William Street when she approached a stop sign at Mattis Avenue. Witnesses told police that her vehicle failed to yield to traffic on Mattis Avenue, where she collided with the Yukon.
The two vehicles landed in the front yards on opposite sides of the street.
Brooks was taken to Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, where he was listed in good condition on Monday afternoon. Brumfield was taken to Provena Covenant Medical Center in Urbana, where she was listed in good condition on Monday afternoon. Both were conscious and breathing when they left the scene of the accident, according to Champaign police spokeswoman Rene Dunn.
One southbound lane and two northbound lanes of Mattis were temporarily closed following the crash, but the street has since reopened.
No passengers were reported in either vehicle, according to Dunn.
Brumfield was ticketed for failure to yield at a stop intersection.
