Gary man arrested after police find 21 pounds of suspected marijuana in his vehicle
URBANA — A Gary, Ind., man is being held at the Champaign County Jail on $75,000 bond after police found 21 pounds of suspected marijuana during a traffic stop on Interstate 57.
Tristen Brazelton, 27, who listed an address in Gary, Ind., was charged on Monday with unlawful cannabis trafficking in excess of 5,000 grams.
According to a state police report, a trooper pulled over a brown Kia rental Brazelton was driving north on Interstate 57 in rural Thomasboro at 4:50 p.m. Saturday for a moving violation.
After Brazelton gave police permission to search the vehicle, police found 21 pounds of suspected marijuana in the trunk of the vehicle.
According to the charge, Brazelton was allegedly transporting the suspected marijuana north from Memphis with the intent to deliver it to Chicago.
After Brazelton asked for more time to hire an attorney, Judge Richard Klaus set Brazelton's next court appearance for Nov. 8.
