Man wanted in home invasion arrested in Alabama

MATTOON — A Rantoul man wanted in connection with an Oct. 15 home invasion in Mattoon was arrested Tuesday in Alabama.

Mattoon Police Chief Jeff Branson said Willie James "Bam Bam" Hall was taken into custody in Georgiana, Ala., on warrants relating to the home invasion.

According to a police report, Hall and another man, Devin J.T. "Pootie J." Aikens, also of Rantoul, broke into an elderly couple's home on Oct. 15 and beat and robbed the couple.

Branson said Mattoon police learned that Hall had fled Illinois to Georgiana, Ala., and then worked with Georgiana police and other Alabama law enforcement to find Hall and arrest him.

Coles County arrest warrants were issued for both Hall and Aikens, with bond set at $350,000.

"It is expected that Willie James Hall will be extradited back to the state of Illinois in the near future," Branson said in a statement.

Mattoon police and Coles County Crimestoppers continue to seek information on Aikens' whereabouts.
