Police investigate mugging in Urbana

URBANA — Police are investigating a mugging at an east Urbana apartment complex that happened Thursday night.

Urbana police Lt. Bryant Seraphin said a 24-year-old resident of The Pointe had parked in front of his own building in the 1500 block of East Florida Avenue and was walking toward the building just before 10 p.m. when a group of young men came toward him, yelling profanities.

Seraphin said the man estimated there were six or eight, all wearing hooded sweatshirts. From the group, one man came closer to him while a second hit him in the head with an unknown black metal object.

Seraphin said the man did not recognize any of the men in the group and tried to defend himself before running from the attackers. He was not robbed of anything.

The man went to Carle Hospital in Urbana to be treated for a cut to his head, Seraphin said.
