Woman robbed in Urbana

URBANA — Urbana police are investigating a robbery that occurred Tuesday morning.

Lt. Robert Fitzgerald said just before 8:20 a.m., a 45-year-old woman was walking on Silver Street near Cottage Grove Avenue  when she was approached by a man who threw her to the ground and robbed her of her wallet, which she said contained several hundred dollars.

She told police she was on her way to pay her rent.

The woman said she did not get a good look at the man and could not say for sure what race he was but estimated he was 5 feet 10 inches tall, about 180 pounds. She said he was wearing blue jeans, a black cloth jacket and a hooded sweatshirt.

The woman was not physically hurt, Fitzgerald said.

Wooow!!! I'd bet that this was someone who knew her or at least knew that since today was the first of the month, that she would have her rent money on her AND her schedule to go about paying it. Darn shame!

I feel very sorry for this woman. I am sad to see that that end of urbana has went so far down. I used to live on silver street when I was a teenager and I would have never had to worry about being robbed.
