Police seek information about early-morning gunfire

CHAMPAIGN — Police are asking for help from the public after several shots were fired at a house early Tuesday morning.

Officers were sent to the 1500 block of Thornton Drive in northwest Champaign about 3:15 a.m. Tuesday after several reports of shots being fired.

Police searched the area both in squad cars and on foot but found no one.

Shortly before 4 a.m., they spoke with a homeowner in the area, who believed several shots were fired from her back yard. Police found seven places on the back of her house that had been hit by gunshots.

The Champaign Police Department is seeking information about the shootings. Anyone with information can call the police department at 351-4545, or give an anonymous tip by calling Crimestoppers at 373-TIPS (373-8477). Information can be sent online at http://www.373tips.com or by texting keyword "CCTIP" plus the information to 274637 (CRIMES).
