Chicago man arrested for attempted armed robbery in Urbana

URBANA — A Chicago man is being held at the Champaign County jail on $100,000 bond following his arrest on charges of attempted armed robbery in Urbana.

According to a police report, a 24-year-old Urbana woman was walking home in the 200 block of East Illinois Street at 2:45 a.m. Saturday when a man approached her from behind and grabbed her throat.

Police said the man held a knife to the woman’s throat and demanded money.

The woman was able to escape without turning over any money, and police arrested Leeroy Davis, 37, of Chicago nearby a short time later on charges of attempted armed robbery and took him to the Champaign County jail.

On Sunday evening, police had no information as to whether the woman was injured.
