Woman sentenced to probation in sexual abuse case

URBANA — A Champaign woman who admitted having sex with a teenage boy she was tutoring has been conditionally sentenced to two years of probation.

Lynnette McIntyre, 45, who listed an address in the 2400 block of North Neil Street, pleaded guilty Thursday before Judge Tom Difanis to criminal sexual abuse, a Class 4 felony. She admitted that in January she committed a sex act in her apartment with a 17-year-old male student.

The incident came to light after the boy's parents found text messages of a sexual nature on his cell phone. McIntyre was a Champaign schools teacher's assistant at the time of her arrest in February.

McIntyre will now have to undergo a sex offender evaluation and depending on what it shows, the judge will confirm or reject the plea agreement entered into by her attorney, Ed Piraino of Champaign, and Assistant State's Attorney Troy Lozar.

The attorneys agreed she should be sentenced to probation and treatment and have no contact with the teen. She'll have to register as a sex offender.

A more serious felony charge of aggravated criminal sexual abuse will be dismissed if the judge confirms her sentence at a Feb. 6 hearing.

Champaign schools spokeswoman Lynn Peisker said McIntyre's last day with the school district was March 28, She declined to say if McIntyre was fired or resigned.

In other criminal cases recently resolved in Champaign County:

— D'Angelo Jordan, 23, whose last known address was in the 100 block of East Springfield Avenue, Champaign, was sentenced by Difanis to four years of probation for participating in a continuing financial crimes enterprise.

Jordan pleaded guilty to the Class 1 felony in August. He was also ordered to perform 150 hours of public service and pay restitution of about $2,600.

Co-defendant Treve Ruskin II, of Champaign, was sentenced in September to seven years in prison, also for the same crime, with a recommendation he receive boot camp.

Assistant State's Attorney Joel Fletcher said between December 2009 and January 2010, the two men persuaded three women to open accounts at Busey Bank with small amounts of money. The women then gave the men the debit cards and personal identification numbers for the accounts. The men made deposits into the accounts using checks written on closed accounts, then withdraw cash via ATMs before the bank realized the deposits didn't exist.

Fletcher said Jordan opened accounts and on at least some occasions, both he and Ruskin recruited others to do so.

In return for Jordan's plea to the Class 1 felony, an unrelated theft case was dismissed.

...yet another example of how they legal system is this country continues to have a double standard with respect to crimes of this nature.  If a male teacher had done this, he would have absolutely been sent to prison.

What????

Mr. Lozar prosecuted this teacher in a position of trust with 28 years of difference (!!!) and he did not demand 15 years behind bars for her?

If you are not lazy - look at Lozar's prosecution record. He strives from lo-o-o-ong sentences in the cases he prosecutes. Why is he so mellow in this case but not in others?

BTW, why the "sex act" (sex between the woman and the teen) was committed but she was not charged with sexual assault?

It is hard to believe - such a hypocrisy and double strandards.Last time i checked the Lady Justice was supposed to be blind.
