School lockdown lifted; police seek source of phone threat

UPDATED 12:19 p.m. Wednesday

DANVILLE — Danville police are looking for an individual who made a threatening phone call to East Park Elementary School late this morning, according to Danville Public Safety Director Larry Thomason.

Danville police went to the Danville elementary school on Colfax Street shortly after 11 a.m. after school personnel received a threatening phone call.

Danville schools Superintendent Mark Denman said the school was on a “soft” lockdown after receiving the call, meaning no one could enter or leave the building. In a “hard” lockdown, Denman said all movement would be restricted, even inside the school.

Thomason said the call came from an unknown individual who threatened a student. He said those were the only statements made during the call, and police are investigating the incident and looking for the individual.

The school is continuing with its regular school day, and Denman said the building is no longer on lockdown, but officials are closely monitoring who comes in and out of the school the rest of the day.
