URBANA — A Rantoul man found in the campus area of Champaign Saturday with a loaded gun and drugs in his truck has been charged with four felonies.

A University of Illinois police officer spotted Vothy Vin, 20, who listed an address in the 1300 block of Sunset Drive, in a parking lot at Sixth and John streets in Champaign early Saturday. Vin consented to a search of it and police found just under 2 grams of cocaine, a little more than an ounce of cannabis, a loaded .22-caliber revolver, an electronic scale, box cutters, gloves, and a bottle with prescription medication that had another person's name on it.

Police interviewed Vin, who admitted he was buying cocaine in Chicago to sell. He also admitted selling cannabis and that the gun was his.

He was charged with armed violence, aggravated unlawful use of weapons, possession with intent to deliver cocaine, and possession with intent to deliver cannabis. If convicted of the most serious armed violence, he faces six to 30 years in prison.

Vin is scheduled to be back in court Feb. 7 and remains in the county jail in lieu of $4,500.

Police also arrested Carlos Torres-Negron, 28, who listed an address in the 300 block of South Lincoln Street, Rantoul, for possession of a controlled substance.

Police said he ran from them when they first approached but was caught and placed in the back seat of a squad car. When he was removed, a bag of cocaine fell out. Officers found two small bags containing less than a gram of cocaine.

His bond was set at $3,000 and he is due back in court Jan. 10.
