Rantoul man sentenced to prison for child pornography
URBANA — A Rantoul man has been sentenced to 17 years in prison after he pleaded guilty to aggravated child pornography.
Sean M. Kellem, 22, who listed an address in Rantoul, pleaded guilty on Wednesday to one count of aggravated child pornography.
As part of a plea agreement, a second count of aggravated child pornography and two counts of child pornography were dismissed.
Judge Heidi Ladd sentenced Kellem to 17 years in prison, with credit for 196 days already served. Kellem must submit samples of blood, saliva or tissue to the state police or the Illinois Department of Corrections within 45 days, and he must register as a sex offender.
Because the children in the pictures are under the age of 13, the aggravated child pornography count is a more serious Class X felony, carrying a mandatory prison term of six to 30 years upon conviction.
Rantoul police Sgt. Marcus Beach said his department and the Urbana Police Department had been investigating Kellem for several months. They served court-ordered search warrants at Kellem's home in the 100 block of East Sangamon Avenue and his mother's home on that same street in June. They seized four computers from the two homes, some of which had videos and images of children engaged in sex acts.
