Murder case set for trial in Danville
DANVILLE — A 26-year-old Danville man's murder case has been scheduled for trial after a judge found probable cause in a preliminary hearing Thursday in Vermilion County Circuit Court.
Alvin C. Beasley faces three counts of murder, Class M felonies, in the Dec. 23 death of Deryon S. Mullins, 17, of Danville.
Beasley appeared at his preliminary hearing Thursday with his defense attorney Larry Mills. His trial was scheduled for April 9. At his arraignment Jan. 9, the judge ordered Beasley be held in the Vermilion County Jail with no bond, and the judge continued that order at Thursday's preliminary hearing.
Beasley is accused of murdering Mr. Mullins in a residence on Quincy Street in Danville.
Danville police responded to the 0-100 block of Quincy Street shortly after midnight Dec. 23 after they received a call that a person had been shot. Mr. Mullins was found unresponsive inside the residence and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The state's attorney's office obtained a warrant for Beasley's arrest that night, but police did not locate him until Beasley was arrested on Dec. 28 in Joplin, Mo.
Joplin police received a tip that Beasley was in their town and arrested him at 12:48 a.m. Dec. 28 at Jukebox Saturday Night on Range Line Road in Joplin, Mo. He remained in the Joplin jail until he was transferred back to Vermilion County for arraignment.
