Woman pleads innocent following drug arrest in Champaign

URBANA — A Liverpool, Ill., woman was charged Wednesday after an incident involving three bags of suspected heroin.

Laura L. Williams, 43, who listed an address in Liverpool, pleaded innocent to unlawful possession with the intent to deliver a controlled substance.

According to a police report, state police saw Williams taking part in what appeared to be a hand-to-hand drug transaction in a parking lot on Bloomington Road in Champaign on Tuesday. Police talked to some people involved in the incident who said they had given Williams $60 to buy heroin for them. They told police they had purchased heroin from Williams on previous occasions, and Williams was to meet them and deliver the heroin in the 2000 block of Springfield Avenue.

Police conducted a search of the people involved in the alleged transaction and their car and found no contraband. Police then followed them to the Springfield Avenue location, where they met Williams and received a half gram (about 18-thousandths of an ounce) of suspected heroin in three bags.

Judge Richard Klaus set Williams' next court appearance for March 13.

I don't know where you folks get your math from, but where I come from an ounce equals

28.3495231 grams

Now, the way I figure it... a half a gram equals approxametly 1 / 56th of an ounce... where in the hell did you get your 18-thousandths of an ounce ???????????

Come on people, I didn't even graduate high school... and I can do this math in my head.

Shadow - Guess what 1/56 and 18/1000 have in common? Can you do that in your head?

My appologies,

I do stand corrected. The number stated as Thousands just seemed way out there at first glance. Can someone please help me get my size 13 foot out of my mouth ?

Agreed, the news-gazette has a hard enough time spelling let alone getting their measurements right.  Again, is there no editor or facts checker before they send anything to press?  This paper is a sad excuse for one and just shows how much this is amateur hour.

Hint:  read midrange's comment prior to jumping on the bandwagon.

Do you check your facts before you vote, too?

hmmm wrote on February 10, 2012 at 2:02 am

Nope,  vote blindly.  I vote for whomever FOX News tells me who to vote for, and after that I vote for whatever candidate has the momentum.  That being the case, my vote goes to Bachman, no wait, Cain, no wait, Gingrich, no wait, Perry, no wait, Santorum, no wait, Paul, no wait Romney.  Whew!  That was hard.  Im so depressed now, because I just don't know which bandwagon I will jump on next.   ronaldo, you have any suggestions, senor?

No suggestions, but the content of your post spoke volumes.  And it answered my question with a resounding "no, I don't".

Oh, and that's Señor Señor to you.

I checked on the grams to ounces converter on the Internet, and it computes that 0.5 grams equals 0.017636 ounces. So the amount listed in the story is certainly correct at about 0.018 ounces.

@Hmmm;  I respect someone who admits their mistakes.  Your sense of humor is great also.  Sadly, you were "too hip for the room" with some of your critics.  I enjoyed your comments.  Don't let them get you down.
