Collision closes Market Street for short time

CHAMPAIGN - A collision that injured one man closed Market Street near Olympian Drive in Champaign for about 20 minutes Thursday morning.

According to Champaign police spokeswoman Rene Dunn, a car and truck collided at the intersection just  before 11 a.m.

The 60-year-old driver of the car was injured in the collision, but was reported to be conscious and breathing. He was taken to Carle Foundation Hospital. His name was not immediately available but he was reported to be from Burr Ridge. He was driving a Ford Fusion.

The other vehicle was a dump truck belonging to the village of St. Joseph. The driver of that vehicle was Michael Peters of St. Joseph. He was not injured.

Dunn said preliminary information suggested that the car driver failed to stop at the stop sign while heading east on Olympian and hit the truck, which was southbound on Market. Police did not issue any tickets to Peters.
