Champaign police seek info on spate of thefts from vehicles

CHAMPAIGN — The Champaign Police Department is asking for the public's help finding who is responsible for recent thefts of catalytic converters from vehicles.

Between July 27 and Aug. 10, 20 catalytic converters were removed from vehicles at various businesses. Urbana police got at least two such reports.

The thefts occurred overnight when the businesses were closed. Targeted vehicles included box trucks and vans.

Surveillancevideoshowed the possible suspect vehicle was a white 1992-1998 Honda or similar type vehicle.

Anyone with information is asked to call Champaign police at 351-4545 or Crimestoppers at 373-8477. Tips can also be sent at http://www.373tips.com or vis cellphone text by sending Tip397 plus the information to CRIMES (274637).

The information you provide is confidential. You do not have to give your name or appear in court. Crimestoppers will pay a reward if the information you provide leads to an arrest for this crime. Cash rewards are also paid for information on other felony crimes or fugitives in the Champaign County area.
