Champaign man faces child pornography charges
URBANA – A Champaign man is accused of having and distributing child pornography.
Alan Walworth, 49, who listed an address in the 600 block of West Church Street, Champaign, was arraigned and pleaded innocent Wednesday to felony charges accusing him of dissemination and possession of child pornography between Jan. 1 and May 5 this year.
Bond was set at $75,000 by Judge Richard Klaus, who advised Walworth that he faces mandatory prison sentences if convicted.
Walworth is due to return to court July 1 for a pretrial hearing.
Assistant State's Attorney Rob Scales said in court Wednesday that Champaign police executed a search warrant Tuesday at Walworth's home in Champaign after what he called an "extensive investigation."
Champaign police Lt. Joe Gallo said police received information on suspected child pornography.
Police seized a computer and accessories, videotapes and DVDs, according to Gallo. A preliminary investigation showed there were more than 65 images of child pornography, he said.
"Many were believed to involve victims who were 7 to 10 years old," Scales said in court.
Walworth admitted to police that he had still photographs and videos showing children engaged in sex acts, according to Scales. The prosecutor said Walworth also admitted receiving child porn images and trading child porn images over the Internet.
