Tom Sawyer Day set to celebrate Mark Twain at Westville library
WESTVILLE – This year marks the 175th anniversary of Mark Twain's birth and 100th anniversary of his death, so Westville Public Library officials are celebrating the author by holding Tom Sawyer Day on Saturday.
The event is free and open to the public. Activities will begin at 10 a.m. at the library, 233 S. State St.
Activities include a frog jumping contest. Kids can bring their own frog or toad, and officials also hope to have a few loaners on hand. All of the amphibians will be released back into their natural habitat after the contest.
There also will be watermelon seed spitting and bubble gum blowing contests, sack races and a fence painting contest.
Also, participants are asked to dress up like Tom Sawyer or Becky Thatcher.
To sign up for the event, stop by the library or call 267-3170.
