DACC, agencies offer caregiver meetings

DANVILLE -- Danville Area Community College, CRIS Healthy Aging Center and Active Seniors Options have joined forces to offer a series of informational meetings for caregivers and the general public.

The meetings are held at the Clock Tower Building at DACC, 2000 East Main St., Danville. They will run weekly through July 7.

Each week, a different topic will be featured both an afternoon session, from 3 to 4 p.m. on Tuesdays, and an evening session, from 6:30 to 7 p.m. on Thursdays.

Here's a list of the scheduled topics:

April 14: Managing challenging behavior and assisting with personal care.

April 19 and 21: Transitioning from hospital to home.

April 26 and 28: Locating support services.

May 3 and 5: Assessing alternate forms of care.

May 10 and 12: Understanding government programs.

May 17 and 19: Caring for physical needs.

May 24 and 26: Managing conflict.

May 31 and June 2: Finding trained, reliable and affordable care.

June 7 and 9: Anticipating grief and caring for the caregiver.

June 14 and 16: Finding and using counseling services and family cooperation and support.

June 21 and 23: Meeting my personal needs and having a social life.

June 28 and 30: Eating healthy.

July 5 and 7: Managing my work schedule.

The cost is $1 per person per session. Refreshments will be served.

People can sign up for all of the sessions or only those they're interested in. Reservations are required. They can be made by calling DACC at 443-8777 or Nancy Brain with Active Seniors Options at 497-0873.
