Spezia takes seat on DACC board
DANVILLE -- The Danville Area Community College Board of Trustees has a new but familiar face.
New member John Spezia, who was elected to his first term on the board in April, was seated on Tuesday morning, along with longtime Trustees David Harby and Richard Cheney, who were returned to their seats.
The men were the top vote-getters in a five-way race for three open seats, which also included newcomers Vincent Koers and Keith Souza. All will serve six-year terms.
Spezia, who is president of the National Junior College Men's Basketball Coaches Association, is retired from DACC. He was the longtime head coach of the men's basketball team and athletic director.
Spezia replaced John Halloran, who was appointed in March 2009 and did not run for a full term because he was relocating.
Also on Tuesday, the board elected the following people to these offices or posts:
Trustee Vickie Miller as chairwoman. She has served as the board's chair since 2001.
Harby as vice chairman. He has held that post since 2005.
Kerri Thurman, the administrative assistant to President Alice Jacobs, as secretary.
Cheney as the Illinois Community College Trustees Association representative.
Trustee Sandi Randall as the ICCTA alternative representative.
The law firms of Clark, Baird and Smith and Davis and Delanois as the board attorneys.
And, Gail Morrison, DACC's chief financial officer, as treasurer.
