DACC president named to national post

DANVILLE — Danville Area Community College's president has been elected to the Presidents Academy Executive Board of the American Association of Community Colleges.

Alice Jacobs was selected to represent the Central Region membership in a competitive election by the national membership. She will serve a three-year term.

Established in 1920, the American Association of Community Colleges represents more than 1,100 associate degree-granting institutions and some 10 million students. It serves as a national voice for community colleges.

The Presidents Academy is an association organization that's dedicated to the professional renewal and recognition of community colleges.

Jacobs has served as DACC's president since 1999. In 2006, she was elected to a three-year term on the association's board of directors by the national membership.

In 2008, Jacobs was elected as chairwoman of the board's committee on audit and finance. At that time, she also was named as a member of the association's executive committee and chosen as the association's board/council contact for the Community College Business Officers.
