Champaign board approves Daly, other administrators

CHAMPAIGN — New administrators have been chosen for some Champaign grade schools.

The Champaign school board voted Monday night to approve the appointments of Barb Daly as interim principal at Westview, James Eastin as assistant principal at Garden Hills, Christopher Gilbert as assistant principal at South Side and Rachel Maehr as assistant principal at Barkstall.

Daly returns to Champaign after serving as assistant regional superintendent for the Champaign-Ford Regional Office of Education.

Daly spent 34 years in the school district, including time as principal at South Side and Bottenfield elementary schools.

"Her expertise will allow students, families and staff to make a smooth transition and have another successful school year," said Interim Superintendent Robert Malito. "We are elated to have her back in Unit 4."

Daly replaces Tervor Nadrozny, who is now the district's director of curriculum.

Eastin has been K-12 principal for the Oakland school district.

Gilbert was a resource teacher at the Achievement Center for Children in Highland Hills, Ohio.

Maehr is familiar with Barkstall Elementary School, having previously been student services coordinator at the school. She also was a social worker at Centennial High School.

In other business, the board voted unanimously to hold a public hearing on the tentative 2012 budget at 6 p.m. Sept. 26 at the Mellon Administrative Center, 703 S. New St., C.
