Champaign extends deadline for equity committee

CHAMPAIGN — The Champaign school district has extended the deadline to Oct. 1 to apply to serve on its Education Equity Excellence Committee.

The committee is intended to support the school board's goal to provide an education system that meets the needs of all students and helps them achieve educational excellence, district officials said.

The five members selected will discuss equity issues in the district, among them academic progress, special eduction, gifted programs, the Academic Academy, attendance rates, discipline rates and graduations rates.

Applicants must live within the district and may include parents or guardians of Champaign students, representatives of community organizations, or others representing a diverse cross-section of the community.

Community members who want to serve should send an application to interim Superintendent Robert Malito.

Applications are available online at http://www.champaignschools.org or at the Mellon Administration Center at 703 S. New St., C.

Applications must be received in the superintendent's office by 5 p.m. Oct. 1 to be considered.
