Urbana school officials will talk to union Tuesday
URBANA — The Urbana school board and representatives from the union that represents district employees will get together Tuesday night for a discussion on facilities, programs, projects and technology.
The roundtable discussion will be part of a meeting from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in Room 2141 of Urbana High School, 1002 S. Race St.
School board President John Dimit said the meeting will include a closed-session discussion about bargaining with representatives from the Urbana Education Association, which represents the school district's employees.
Dimit said the district's contract with the UEA expires next summer.
"We want to talk with the UEA to make plans for bargaining that will take place next spring," Dimit said on Sunday afternoon. "We just want to get a head-start on it."
Dimit said the rest of the meeting will be a roundtable discussion between school board members and the UEA representatives on district facilities, new programs, new projects and technology.
"This is an opportunity for the UEA to have a conversation with the board on important issues," Dimit said.
